Slide 1: Introduction
Hello. In this course, we will explore the world of Business Analytics. So, what is Business Analytics? It is the iterative process of learning from data, transforming it into insights for making better decisions. (1 minute)
Slide 2: Types of Business Analytics
Business Analytics includes a wide range of areas, from Audit and Financial Analytics, Human Resource and Marketing Analytics, to Healthcare, Supply Chain, and Government and Nonprofit Analytics. It’s also applied in Sports, Tax, and Web Analytics. Each of these areas has unique tools and methods for deriving insights from data. (2 minutes)
Slide 3: What is Analytics?
Analytics is about extracting value from data. In the past, our capacity was limited by the tools we had, such as Excel. Today we have more powerful tools, like Python and R, allowing us to analyze a wider range of data and types of data. This power, in turn, provides us with enhanced insights to address business issues and transform decision-making. (2 minutes)
Slide 4: The Human Element
But remember, despite the sophistication of data and analytics, the most critical aspect continues to be the human element. Our capacity for critical thinking and judgment is what ultimately drives value from data. (1 minute)
Slide 5: Learning Objectives
In this class, we’ll focus on four key objectives. First, determine the questions we want to answer with data analysis. Second, understanding the process of extracting, transforming, and loading relevant data (known as the ETL process). Third, applying appropriate data analytic methods. And finally, interpreting and presenting the results. (2 minutes)
Slide 6 - 9: Deep-dive into Objectives
We will delve deeper into these objectives, exploring the relevant stakeholders, their objectives, and how to manage the ETL process. We will also explore how to apply appropriate analytic methods using R, and how to interpret and present our findings in a meaningful way. (3 minutes)
Slide 10: Use of Storytelling to Persuade
Moreover, we will explore how to use storytelling to enhance the presentation of our results and persuade our audience, as we can see in this video. (1 minute video)
Slide 11: Recap of Learning Objectives
To recap, the key objectives for this class will be to determine the question we want to answer with data, manage the ETL process, apply appropriate data analytic techniques, and interpret and share the results. (1 minute)
Slide 12: R as Our Main Tool
We will use R as our main tool to achieve these objectives. Using R ensures we can reproduce our results and repeat our experiments. Reproducibility is a cornerstone principle in both traditional science and data analysis. (1 minute)
